There are some films that leave a deep impression on your hearts and minds even after coming out of the dark theatre, while some films compel the audience to watch every single minute of its entire runtime. Ananya Pandey and debutant Lakshay’s new film ‘Chand Mera Dil’ unfortunately seems to be in the second category. The film tries to tell a very emotional story of youth who have to mature prematurely due to circumstances, but it strays from its original path by getting stuck in the loop of melodramatic and complicated writing.
If seen, the aim of the film was not to create a new definition of romance in Bollywood. Even a simple, touching story can draw an audience to the theater, provided there is truth to it. But ‘Chand Mera Dil’ sometimes sounds too simple and sometimes unnecessarily complicated. Made under the banner of Dharma Productions, the film certainly has some cute moments, great music and glimpses of the actors’ chemistry, but the ‘soul’ that holds the film together is missing.

What is the story of ‘Chand Mera Dil’?
The film’s script revolves around Chandni (Ananya Pandey) and Aarav (Lakshay), who are engineering students and fall in love during their college days. Their love affair progresses rapidly and soon Chandni becomes pregnant. Despite strong opposition from both families and regardless of social barriers, they took a bold decision to bring this child into the world. After this, the struggle to establish a new family begins while struggling with economic hardships, emotional immaturity and the taunts of the society. Meanwhile, a big quarrel takes place between the two, which changes the direction of their entire life journey.
As concise and touching as this story looks on paper, when it comes to the screenplay, its emotional ups and downs prove to be equally ineffective. Many scenes do not look natural but seem to be added forcefully.
Acting: Ananya’s hard work and Lakshay’s screen presence
Ananya Pandey (Chandni): Ananya has sweated a lot for this character. She tries her best to bring out Chandni’s sensitivity and inner conflict on screen. His efforts pay off in many scenes and his acting seems lively, though due to the weak script, his expressions seem fake at some places.
Lakshya (Aarv): Debutant actor Lakshya has a commanding screen presence. On many occasions his body language and dialogue delivery are reminiscent of actor Ranbir Kapoor’s early films. There is a great spark in his chemistry with Ananya in some scenes, but due to slow writing, his character does not fully develop.
In some parts of the film, the acting of the co-stars looks so rehearsed and artificial that instead of feeling the moment, the audience begins to think that the actors are waiting for cues from behind the camera.
Direction and Music: The Sachin-Jigar magic continues
Directed by Vivek Soni, the film seems confused about its tone right from the start. It tries to be realistic and overly dramatic at the same time, causing the two to be unbalanced. Important emotional twists are wrapped up too hastily, while some non-essential scenes drag on for far too long.
Strongest points of the movie:
The biggest and most positive aspect of ‘Chand Mera Dil’ is its music. Composer duo Sachin-Jigar have created a powerful soundtrack that brings life to even the dullest scenes in the film. The film’s title track and some mellow tunes have succeeded in conveying deeper emotions than the dialogues of the characters.
Chand Mera Dil: What is good
There are moments when the film almost finds its rhythm. A quiet conversation. A small debate. A sensitive dialogue between the main characters. These parts look real. The chemistry between Ananya and Lakshay is impressive, if only for a few moments – especially in the light-hearted college scenes. Even when the script breaks down, the music helps keep the emotional atmosphere alive.
Chand Mera Dil: What is not good
The story becomes its biggest obstacle. It oscillates constantly between simplicity and forced complexity, and neither side succeeds entirely. The screenplay lacks emotional continuity, and many scenes feel incomplete. Due to this, the performance of the actors is also adversely affected. There are moments when dialogue feels unnatural, and reactions are delayed – as if someone behind the camera is asking them.
The film also struggles with its pacing. In places where it should move quickly, it slows down; And the scenes that really need time are handled in a hurry.
Chand Mera Dil: Final Verdict
‘Chand Mera Dil’ had all the elements needed for a heart touching romantic drama, but the film failed to make those elements into a complete masterpiece. The cast has worked hard, the music is good, and there are some emotional moments that are impressive. But weak writing and uneven presentation prevent the film from leaving a lasting impression on the audience. It’s not a very bad movie; Just disappointingly mediocre. ‘Chand Mera Dil’ got 2 out of 5 stars.
