These days, there is a period of sequels and revivals of old hit franchises in Bollywood. When it comes to absurd, light-hearted and heart-wrenching situational comedies, the name ‘Dhamaal’ franchise comes to mind first. Almost two decades after the 2007 original, director Inder Kumar has come up with the fourth installment of the franchise, Dhamaal 4.This film, which has been performing brilliantly at the box office for the last 10 days, has been successful in attracting the audience to the theatre. If you are planning to laugh and smile mindlessly with your family this weekend, then this movie could prove to be the right choice for you.

The story of ‘Dhamal 4’ rests on the tried and tested formula of the franchise – the hunt for a hundred year old hidden treasure. This time the treasure is hidden on a mysterious island, the clue of which is locked in the memory of ‘Prithvi’ (Upendra Limay).

Apart from these, a strange and dangerous pirate named ‘Adhura’ (Ravi Kishan) is also there to add spice to the story.

Ajay Devgn’s Effortless Comic Avatar: Ajay Devgn has once again embraced the comedy genre with ease. Amidst all this chaos he acts as the anchor of the film.

Aadi and Manav’s popular duo: Arshad Warsi and Javed Jaffrey’s chemistry and timing is still the biggest backbone of this franchise.

Surprise Package—Ravi Kishan: Ravi Kishan’s dialogue delivery and expressions as the quirky villain and pirate are among the most entertaining moments of the film.

Anjali Anand and Riteish’s Desi Comedy: Riteish Deshmukh as Lalan and Anjali Anand in the role of his wife show excellent comic timing.

Sanjay Mishra’s One-Liners: With his characteristic comic timing, Sanjay Mishra once again succeeds in making the audience laugh.

A complete family entertainer: Staying away from adult humor, Inder Kumar has made it a situational and physical comedy watchable by kids and the entire family.

The memories of the old ‘Dhamal’ movies and the 90s comedy style bring a smile to the faces of the old fans.

Stunning Cinematography: The visuals of the islands, sea and forests, shot by Sudhir Kumar Chaudhary, give the film a stunning cinematic look.

High-energy music: The remake of ‘Bella Chao’ and peppy songs like ‘Sari’ and ‘Chatni’ add to the fun atmosphere of the theatre.

Beautiful sentimental lesson: At the end of the film, the Panchatantra-like lesson is given that greed leads to trouble and the company of family and loved ones is the greatest asset.

 

The film also has some flaws that draw attention:

Old Jokes: Some of the jokes seem to be from the 90s in style, which may sound a little old-fashioned to today’s audience.

Weak VFX: The green screen and visual effects in the lion, crocodile and storm scenes look very artificial and dull.

Slow Pace: Many of the treasure hunt scenes in the second half feel longer than necessary.

‘Dhamal 4’ does not claim to be a deep or intellectual comedy. This is pure popcorn entertainment. If you want to put logic aside and just laugh, this star-studded film will not disappoint you.
