On R&AW’s 58th foundation day, Karan Johar announced his next film based on the story of RN Kao, who worked in the shadows and brought to light the organization we know as R&AW. It is not yet clear whether Karan will direct the film or not.

The film is based on Nitin Gokhale’s book Gentleman Spymaster and will hit the theaters on August 11, 2028.

“He made invisible … but history remembers his influence.

“Today marks 58 years of R&AW and we are delighted to announce our film on the story of RN Kao, the man who worked in the shadows and brought to light the organization we know today as R&AW – and its first mission.

Karan Johar wrote in an Instagram post, “Based on Nitin Gokhale’s book Gentleman Spymaster, his story comes alive on the big screen on August 11, 2028.

Karan said in a statement: “Leo Media has been passionately researching and dramatizing this narrative for the past two years, we want this film to be an exciting story based on true facts to pay tribute to RAW and honor their milestone year with a solid motion picture… All of us at Dharma are excited to go.”

Currently in the development stage, the director and other details are currently being kept under wraps.

The film chronicles the journey from 1955 to 1971, establishing the need for the R&AW, leading to formation and the first mission in the 1971 war against Pakistan. For the uninitiated, RN Kao is considered a legend in the world of espionage craft, and is responsible for bringing Indian espionage to the global stage.

The RN Kao film will mark the reunion of Dharma Productions with Leo Media Collective after the success of Bad News and Kesari: Chapter 2.
