Dhanush’s upcoming film Om: Chapter 1 will not release on October 16, 2026, as originally planned. The actor announced the change on X, saying that the decision was made out of respect for Rajinikanth and to avoid conflicts with other major Tamil releases.
Earlier this film was going to hit the theaters a day after Rajinikanth’s film Jailer 2Which is scheduled to release worldwide on October 15. Dhanush said that the team did not want Om: Chapter 1 To compete with Rajinikanth’s film.
In a statement shared on X, Dhanush wrote, “At such a time, shifting the release of a film comes with its challenges.”
“Our superstar, Rajinikanth sir, who we have all admired and worshiped for years, has a film coming out a day ahead of us on October 15. As a mark of respect to him, we have decided to postpone the release of our film, OM, to a later date.”
Dhanush has also confirmed this Om: Chapter 1 It will not release during Diwali this year. Suriya’s film has already been announced for the festival, and the actor said the team respects the previously announced date.
“Also, we will not be coming on Diwali this year, as Suriya sir’s film has already been announced for the same date. In all fairness, he announced his date first, and we strongly believe that big films should have a mutual understanding and respect each other’s decisions, keeping in mind the welfare of cinema and the industry. We will soon announce our new release date.”

Om: Chapter 1 Dhanush is featured in the lead role alongside an ensemble cast that includes Mammootty, Sai Pallavi, Srileela, Naseeruddin Shah and Indran. The movie is directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy.
The film marks Mammootty’s return to Tamil cinema after appearing in the 2019 film Perambu. It will also mark the return of Naseeruddin Shah to Tamil cinema after a long gap. His last Tamil film was Hey Ram, released in 2000 and starring Kamal Haasan and Shah Rukh Khan.
Dhanush’s announcement comes soon after his National Awards recognition. The actor recently bagged the Best Actor (Special Mention) award and also won the Best Tamil Film award.
Meanwhile, Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, it is scheduled for a worldwide release on October 15, 2026.
