According to Raju, Anupam and Madhumalathi decided to get married when they were in Lucknow. The wedding took place in a temple, but things changed soon after the ceremony. Anupam reportedly left soon after realizing that he could not continue the relationship.
“It was over in a day. They got married in a temple in Lucknow. The next day, they left saying, ‘I can’t live here.’ Anupam first came to Shimla for a few days and then went to Delhi,” Raju said in an interview with Siddharth Kannan.
Raju Kher recalled that Madhumalathi had suggested marriage as the two had spent many years together. He said that Anupam agreed to the idea and soon the marriage was arranged.
They were in a relationship for two-three years. He said, ‘Okay, let’s do it tomorrow’ and they got married. He must have been there for a day or two, and then he was gone,” he recalled.
At that time, Anupam was yet to make his debut in Hindi cinema. She was in Lucknow, while Raju was in Shimla. As none of the family attended the wedding, they did not immediately know that Anupam had got married.
“No one from the family was there, so we didn’t even know that he got married,” said Raju.
Raju Kher also said that he never tried to find out the reason for the separation instead of respecting his brother’s personal decision.
