“When you love someone and want the relationship to last, you don’t mind saying sorry a thousand times,” Sonu said earlier in Kannada.
“So, my dear family, if I have said anything unintentionally, I apologize profusely. You know I am not the kind of person who would ever hurt anyone, especially my family in Karnataka. You have given me so much love and respect over the last 30 years, and I don’t want any small misunderstanding to spoil this relationship or create any rift,” he said.
The singer issued an apology following threats from pro-Kannada outfit KRV, which demanded the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner to deny permission for singer Sonu Nigam’s concert on October 24.
The organization had warned that if this happens, a state-level protest will be held.
Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) state president TA Narayana Gowda alleged that Sonu Nigam had insulted Kannadigas by comparing the Kannada song request to the Pahalgam terror attack.
The incident dates back to April 2025, when Sonu Nigam performed at East Point College in Bangalore. When an audience member asked him to sing in Kannada, the singer replied, “The best songs I have sung are in Kannada… I didn’t like it when a boy asked me to sing in Kannada. That’s the reason for the Pahalgam attack.”
The comment drew sharp criticism and protests across Karnataka.
KRV wrote in his letter to the Police Commissioner, “Kannadigas have not forgotten this wound.
Sonu Nigam is scheduled to perform on October 24 at 7 pm at the Mall of India, Thanisandra Main Road, Bangalore as part of the Revolution India Tour.
