Fake photos and videos of actors created using artificial intelligence have become a concern in the entertainment industry. Many actors, including Janhvi Kapoor and Keerthy Suresh, have faced misuse of their images and spoken out against such content. Now, VFX expert CB Arun Kumar shares his thoughts on the issue and why there is a need for strict rules to prevent people from misusing AI.

Pearl Academy’s dean of communications, film and gaming believes social media platforms should be asked to clearly mark images and videos created using AI. He also feels that blaming technology as a whole is not the right way to deal with the problem.

In an interview with Hindustan TimesArun Kumar claimed that fake content existed long before AI, as people used Photoshop, body doubles and VFX tricks to create fake images. AI has now become another tool for people who use such content to make a quick buck.

He said, “There are already many legal ways to remove this type of objectionable content. Even on a legal platform like Instagram, the AI content disclaimer is a small, hidden message that viewers might not easily see. We need tougher laws that mandate clear, bold labeling of AI content so that it can’t pretend to be news, as are the problems with real clips on Internet Life. Now it can’t tell what’s real and what’s fake.”

“It’s important to distinguish between criticizing AI and talking about its illegal use trained on the work of an artist without their consent. The former is stupid; the latter is a genuine legal and ethical concern. Taking the Luddite position that all AI is evil and all work is stolen from humans.”

Arun Kumar also pointed out that AI is creating problems for digital artists, as many companies now use AI tools instead of hiring people to do the same work.

Artists working in movies, TV, fashion, media and other fields are getting harder to make money because AI can do things so much faster. He feels that artists who learn to use AI in their work will have a better chance of staying in the industry.

Arun Kumar added that AI is already a part of our lives and people need to understand how to work with it instead of ignoring it.
