A kingdom ruled by women for 800 years faces a threat from within its own world in an upcoming Netflix series. Akka. The streaming platform has released the trailer of the crime drama, which stars Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte as two women whose conflicting ambitions set the stage for a fierce battle. Set in 1985, the story unfolds in Parnuru, a fictional kingdom where women have created and control a powerful underworld.
Paranuru works according to its own rules. Its women influence businesses, households and criminal networks, while the title of ‘Akka’ is reserved for the woman who holds the highest office in the kingdom. The trailer offers a glimpse of a society whose power structure is intact from generation to generation, making the threat to its leadership all the more significant.
The threat comes in the form of Rudra played by Radhika Apte. His arrival put the ruling clan on edge as he refused to accept its authority and set out to dismantle its empire. Keerthy Suresh plays the role of Bhavani, a woman who does not want to let the family’s grip on Parnuru slip.
The two characters find themselves on opposite sides of a battle that could change the future of the kingdom. Bhavani has a legacy to defend, while Rudra is determined to challenge those in power. Their conflict forms the series’ central conflict, with the trailer hinting at a struggle driven by personal stakes in the form of a desire for control.
With the trailer featuring armed confrontations, guns and other weapons, the stakes appear to be rising rapidly. The violence shows that the battle for Parnuru will not be settled with words alone. As the established order comes under pressure, questions of loyalty, revenge and the value of protecting the family legacy come into play.
Written and directed by Dharmaraj Shetty, Akka Produced by YRF Entertainment. The two main cast includes Tanvi Azmi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Anshuman Pushkar and Monica Panwar.
Akka is set to premiere on Netflix on October 30.
