Anjali Anand made headlines as Ranveer Singh’s sister Gayatri ‘Golu’ Randhawa in Karan Johar’s film. Rocky and Rani Ki love story. Her performance in the 2023 film helped her make a name for herself on the big screen, but getting the opportunity wasn’t easy. Now, in a chat with filmmaker Farah Khan on her YouTube channel, Anjali talks about the tough times before landing her breakthrough role, including a casting director’s comment about her weight and her mother’s reaction to meeting Karan Johar.
Talking about 2020, Anjali recalled that the pandemic left her without work and wiped out her savings. “I was at the lowest point in my life in 2020. I was thinking of leaving India and giving up acting altogether. I wasn’t getting any acting offers. The pandemic happened, all my savings were gone, and I was living alone on rent for six months,” she said.
During this time, he received a message from YRF casting director Shanu Sharma while he was in Goa with friends. Anjali had known Shanu for years and recalled that their first meetings often came with the same advice. “Whenever I met her for roles, she would tell me, ‘When you lose weight, we’ll do something,'” he recalled.
Things changed when Shanu approached him about a possible role in Karan Johar’s film. According to Anjali, Shanu told her, “Karan saw your photo and liked it. He is looking for an actor for this part, and if you crack this audition, he will take you.” He also recalled that Kejo liked him almost immediately: “When he saw you for the first ten seconds, he liked you.”

Recalling his reaction, the actor said, “My mother told me, ‘evil came Karan Johar going to meet.’ i said ‘Mom, I’m actually going to see him.’”
Finally Anjali cracked the audition and landed the role of “Golu”. Rocky and Rani Ki love storyStarring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer.
Anjali has been unabashed about being judgmental about her body in the industry. Earlier this year, she said that opportunities often came to her because of her body type before filmmakers recognized what she could do as an actress.
Anjali made her acting debut with an OTT series untagged. Later she appeared in television shows Two and a half kilos of love. Talking about Bollywood, it was his last film Dhamal 4.
