It’s that time of year when Mukherjee will be spamming your Instagram feed with festive fervor. On Durga Panchami, Kajol, her mother, film legend Tanuja and sister Tanisha Mukherjee posed for the perfect femme jam moment as they inaugurated their 80th North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja.
Sharing cute pictures from the celebrations, Kajol wrote, “Today was a day as a mother, as a mother, as a daughter, as a protector and as a goddess! #jaimaadurga and the madness begins.”
Tanisha Mukherjee also shared a bunch of pictures from the celebration. Kajol-Tanisha were joined by cousin Ayan Mukerji and Border actress Sharbani Mukerji.
Tanisha wrote, “Favorite time of the year… Maa Ashe!! Durga Maa Ki Joi!!”
Legacy of North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja
It was founded in 1948 by film mogul and Filmalaya studio founder Shashadhar Mukherjee, his wife Satrani Mukherjee, JM Bhadra, and 26 other members.
The puja was first held at Sri Mandal Hall (Podar School) in Santacruz, Mumbai.
Later it moved to Tulip Star Hotel, Juhu, and is now hosted near SNDT Women’s University in Juhu, Mumbai.
The celebration has been passed down through generations of the family, closely managed by veteran actor Deb Mukherjee (father of filmmaker Ayan Mukherjee) before his death in 2025.
Rani Mukherjee, who is a regular at puja festivals, may not be able to attend the celebrations as her mother, Krishna Mukherjee, died on September 22.
