All about Bathatha
Set in Madras in 1986, Bathatha is about a dreaded gangster, played by Vijay Sethupathi. Her life changes when an eight-year-old boy accidentally locks her in an empty school toilet. When the two spend time together, they form a bond. The boy helps the gangster see life differently and brings out his softer side.
Director Balaji Tharnidharan said in an exclusive interview with NDTV, “I wanted to tell the story of a gangster (Bathatha) without glorifying violence or turning him into a larger-than-life hero.”
“It’s a gray or dark area and apart from being about the power of gangsters, I wanted to explore the anger, ego, insecurity and fear that often accompany such a life.” He added, “I didn’t want to make it a traditional gangster action film but wanted it to be a drama.”
Vijay Sethupathi plays Bathatha and Lijomol Jose his wife. Other actors Sai Prithviraj, Sahasara Sri, Santhi Balachandran, Lijomol Jose and Harikrishnan played the lead roles.
