Rani Mukherjee’s mother Krishna Mukherjee passed away at the age of 75 on Tuesday. The family has now shared an official statement with details of his prayer meeting.
The official note read, “Krishna was an exceptionally talented artist, a beautiful singer, a devoted wife, a loving sister, a loyal friend and an exceptional grandmother and mother. While her death has shaken the family and plunged us into a state of grief, we have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love from your friends and friends. A source of strength during this difficult time.”
“Krishna was always known for her infectious laugh, generous spirit, kindness, warmth and strength. Over the years, she lived a vibrant life, filled with many moments of joy and love. She touched many lives and left a piece of her heart in all of us. She will be greatly missed by all.”
“We warmly welcome all who knew, loved and cherished her to join us on 27th September at JW Marriott Juhu – Ball Room from 4pm to 5:30pm to join her prayer meeting to pray and remember her beautiful life.”
Rani has often spoken about the close relationship she shares with her mother. Krishna was also a major source of inspiration for her performance in Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Rani in Norway, in which the actor played a Bengali mother fighting to get her children back.
Speaking at a promotional event for the film in 2023, Rani revealed that while she studied references related to the real-life story, much of her image was inspired by her own mother.
“As an actor, I wanted to be my own interpretation of the character. I didn’t want too many similarities and asked people to find similarities between my role and the real person.”
Rani said, “Ashima had recorded many tapes of Sagarika, and I watched them for some references, but the rest of the character is actually based on my mother. She is the most Bengali person I know… Whether it’s feeding us with her hands, putting tikkas on us… I got strength and inspiration from my mother,” said Rani.
Krishna Mukherjee was a former playback singer and was married to filmmaker Ram Mukherjee, who co-founded Filmalaya Studios. Ram Mukherjee died in 2017.
