Mother of Rani Mukherjee, Krishna Mukherjee died on September 22 at his Mumbai home. She was 75 years old. Rani Mukherjee, who is a regular at her family puja, the North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja, has barred herself from this year’s puja events following the death of her mother.
On Sunday, on the auspicious occasion of Durga Saptami, North Bombay Sarbajanin Durga Pooja’s Instagram handle shared a heartfelt video tribute to the actor’s mother.
In the video, a family member is heard saying, ‘We are all saddened and shocked by the sudden demise of the pillar, my friends, my family.’ He called Krishna Mukherjee his family. Family members paid tribute by showering flowers on his picture.
The video also features a footage of all the happy moments Krishna Mukherjee spent with Rani and her family, which is played at the special event. However, Rani Mukherjee was not present on this occasion.
Didn’t know what my mother was trying to do at that time
Rani Mukherjee said in many of her interviews that her father was not in favor of her acting in films. It was his mother who inspired him to act. It was her mother who was so disappointed with her first shot that she told the producer that Rani would ‘ruin’ her film.
Earlier this year, during a conversation with Karan Johar, Rani Mukerji spoke about her early days in the industry.
The actor revealed that even though she came from a filmy family, as her father Ram Mukherjee was also a film producer, the household made enough to ‘make ends meet’.
Rani said that her mother had also agreed to the first offer somewhere due to financial reasons. “I didn’t realize then that maybe my mom was looking for a way to improve my household’s financial situation. Because she knew that if I did well in this area, it would be good for us. But at the time, I didn’t see it from that angle.”
While Raja Ki Ayegi Baaraat failed to work at the box office, Rani has not looked back. He acted as a leading star in films like Ghulam and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, cementing his status as a breakout star.
