Rohit Roy found himself in trouble after calling television a ‘dustbin medium’ in September. Her comment upset several TV actors, who criticized her for her choice of words. Now, weeks after the controversy, Rohit has explained what he meant and admitted he could have used a better phrase.
He also revealed that his wife, Mansi Joshi Roy, a television actor herself, was unhappy with his comment and scolded him for saying it. The actor said that he never wanted to insult people working in television. He also reminded everyone that television played a major role in building his career.
Looks like self respect helped him become the actor he is today. He feels that people misunderstand his point, because he was not trying to call television actors or their work worthless. Rohit was also hurt after receiving personal attacks from fellow actors.
In an interview with Text RetroRohit Roy said, “We all know that I am a product of television, if there was no television, if there was no. self respectI wouldn’t be sitting here 30 years later. So first of all I would like to say that I understand what I have said. I feel like maybe I shouldn’t have used the word dustbin, because someone would feel, ‘Oh man, he’s calling me trash.’ However, this is not true. “
“Some actors have attacked me personally. It’s very hurtful because I didn’t say anything about you, you’re on television, I’m on television. I didn’t say you’re trash or you’re dustbin. I meant we’re all working on television. I was talking about the content, it’s a dustbin medium.”
Rohit explained that he meant that television content often captures attention for a short period of time. As someone who made his career in television, he admits that the industry has played a big role in his life. He wants to see better content. The veteran actor added that some of his friends advised him to focus on films and OTT projects instead of television. However, he believes that a talented actor can prove his mettle even while working in the confines of television.
“I was also scolded by my wife, who is also a TV star. I explained to her, ‘If you don’t understand, who else will?’ He said, ‘You shouldn’t have used that word.’ I replied, ‘Fair enough’,” added the actor.
During his appearance on Kindle Cast YouTube ChannelRohit Roy was asked if television has become more professional but he has lost his focus on acting. He said he didn’t mean to sound impolite, but he felt that TV shows are often forgotten too quickly.
He also pointed out that many shows follow similar storylines and ideas, leaving little room for fresh and creative content. His comments did not go down well with many television actors. Naman Shaw, Devolina Bhattacharjee and Pankit Thakkar criticized the way Rohit spoke about the television industry.
