Sanjay Dutt’s life took a dramatic turn after his arrest in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case. He was convicted of illegal possession of firearms under the Arms Act. The actor was sentenced to five years in prison by the Supreme Court in 2013. He was released from Yervada Jail in Pune in February 2016 after being pardoned for good behaviour.
Years later, Sanjay Dutt has opened up about his time behind bars. Talking to Shekhar Suman on his talk show Shekhar Tonite, of Munna Bhai MBBS The star recalled how he remained undaunted despite the drastic change in his circumstances. He talked about sharing prison cells with other inmates. Sanjay Dutt said that his special upbringing never made him feel superior to those around him.
“You know, all these years, I’m not someone who is arrogant about my stardom. It’s not in me. We’ve eaten on the floor many times on the sets. I’ve sat with the workers many times to eat on the sets. I don’t care about these things,” he said.
Sanjay Dutt said that officials believed that as a celebrity he was used to relaxing, which would break his will. “But nothing happened to me. Because I didn’t break down. They went into shock. They made fun of me. One of them came up to me and said, ‘You won’t get any cigarettes here. Now, what are you going to do?’ So my reply was, ‘Sir, yahan boli toh milgi,'” recalled the actor.
“All these changes didn’t bother me, so they emphasized how grounded and impactful he is,” she added.
On the work front, Sanjay Dutt was last seen in the film Welcome to the jungle Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, Sunil Shetty and Jacqueline Fernandez with Raveena Tandon and Disha Patani.
