A fire broke out on the set of Colors TV’s reality show on Monday. Husband Wife Aur Panga Season 2which was made inside Prime Focus Studios in Film City in Goregaon, Mumbai.

Following the incident, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has demanded the resignation of Film City’s managing director as well as lodging an FIR against the channel, producer and production house.

The workers’ body said, “Thousands of workers and artists work in this complex every day, and today’s fire is another warning that their lives are being costed. Fires in Film City are not accidents. They happen every year, and lives are lost every time. The reason is simple: Producers, channels and production houses cut corners on fire safety to save money, and no one is stopping them.”

AICWA further alleged that the set lacked basic fire safety measures.

After the fire, AICWA President Suresh Shyamalal Gupta has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis demanding a thorough investigation into the incident and action against those responsible.

The association has demanded a timely inquiry into how the fire broke out and why fire safety arrangements were allegedly not made. It has filed an FIR against the show’s channel, producer and production house for negligence, as well as demanding the resignation of Film City’s managing director.

Gupta said in his statement, “These studios are standing within Film City, and the management knew very well that the sets were running without basic fire safety. There was not a single fire safety measure on this set. This is not an accident, it is criminal negligence. Every day thousands of workers and artists risk their lives on these sets. When a fire breaks out, it cannot harm the producers working on the poor channels and working on them. Accountability must be imposed at the top, and those responsible must face the law.”

AICWA has also urged the Maharashtra government to make regular fire audits, on-set fire safety staff and fire-fighting equipment mandatory for every production shoot within Film City. In addition, cancellation of licenses has been sought for productions that fail to follow the required safety measures.

The association said it will continue to raise the issue until adequate safety measures are taken for cine workers.
