Tanushree Dutta, a former Miss India Universe and also a model, was embroiled in a legal battle with Nana Patekar, whom she accused of sexually harassing and threatening her on the sets of a 2009 film. Nana Patekar, who died of a heart attack at his home in Goa on Thursday (October 8) at the age of 75, was cleared of all charges by the police in 2019.

Tanushree Dutta was on her way to Lucknow for an event when she learned about the actor’s death. At the time, he said that Nana Patekar died on a “strange day” when she was going to attend a public function that evening. Now, the media, he said, would only be interested in what he had to say about his death.

Asked about his reaction to Nana Patekar’s death, the former actor said, “I have no reaction; today is my day for him, for his event, to make his event a success. What can I say now? Those who are gone are gone.”

Tanushree Dutta then detailed the “trouble” in the last five years after the #MeToo allegations against Nana Patekar.

“What I have gone through in the last five years after #MeToo, I am very disturbed. If you look at it from my perspective, the victim, the ongoing case, the harasser, how much pressure was put on me to withdraw the case? Still, I didn’t withdraw it. I was offered a bribe, but still I didn’t withdraw the case…”

The former beauty queen claimed that Nana Patekar “closed the case” and that he was “not proven right”.

“It’s not that we didn’t have all the evidence. The day our key witness was to testify in court, the judge closed the case. Think about it: it took us five years to convince a key witness. She was threatened; our key witness, who was my hairdresser, gave an affidavit in court… It took five years to get her threatened. It took five years to get her threatened by the PCO. At his house…” he accused.

Tanushree Dutta also claimed that Nana Patekar was “arrogant” and kept “harassing her”.

“… what’s true is true, and I’m saying that my chief witness’s affidavit… Usually, an affidavit is presented first – you see, my chief witness’s affidavit is presented in court, but the day this affidavit was to be presented, the day we were going to win the case, the case itself was closed, so, he was a man, and he himself ended his life. That devil didn’t stop. He kept bothering me…”

His comments came just before Nana Patekar’s state funeral at his Pune farmhouse.
