Warner Bros. unveils final trailer Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three, and Paul Atreides is in deeper trouble than ever. Released on October 27, the nearly three-minute preview sees Timothée Chalamet’s Emperor grappling with a conspiracy against him, Zendaya’s broken relationship with Chani, and the damage caused by years of war. The film takes a darker turn as Paul faces the consequences of his rise to power, while Robert Pattinson enters the picture as a new threat to his rule.

Dune: Part Three Trailer Breakdown: Zendaya’s Chani goes up against Timothée Chalamet’s Paul, Jason Momoa returns.

Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Admits He’s Made an Enemy

The trailer begins with Paul using a Bene Gesserit voice to question Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh) about a plot to kill him. His shaved head and stoic expression indicate how much time has passed since Dune: Part Two. A voiceover from Reverend Mother Mohiam (Charlotte Rampling) offers a glimpse of the scale of his rule, as she says, “Muad’dib has conquered a thousand worlds.” But the more power Paul gains, the further he becomes from the person he once was.

The change becomes impossible to ignore when Paul admits, “After years of fighting, I have become the oppressor that Chaney swore to fight. I am the enemy.” This line shows the bitter irony of his journey. Paul once feared the future that his visions showed him, yet his own choices have brought him closer to it. Now, she understands why Chani refuses to stand by the man he has become.

Zendaya’s Chani stands up against Paul

The biggest revelation of the trailer is that Chaani is turning against Paul. In Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah, she remains loyal to him despite the intrigue surrounding his rule. The film appears to be taking a different direction, with Zendaya’s character fighting Paul’s forces and confronting him over their children’s future.

Their exchange shows that love is no longer enough to keep them together. Chani believes she is protecting their children, while Paul says her actions are for him. The contradiction is surprising, given how central their relationship has been in the first two films.

He never supported Paul’s transformation into the messianic persona, as Freeman sees him. She’s questioned his choices from the beginning and the trailer indicates that her resistance may now turn into outright opposition. As Den of Geek says, “Rather than a victim, a bit of collateral damage, in the fight against Paul, Chaney has become an opponent.”

But is Chaney really fighting Paul? Robert Pattinson’s Scythe is a face dancer, able to take on the appearance of another person. This leaves room for a twist, with the possibility that someone could be impersonating him as part of a conspiracy against the emperor. The trailer doesn’t give any clear answers, leaving viewers guessing as to whether Chaney has actually turned against Paul or whether there’s more to her apparent betrayal than meets the eye.

Robert Pattinson and Jason Momoa return to the world of Dune

Robert Pattinson’s Scythe appears to be at the center of a plot against Paul. He announces in the trailer, “We have found a way to neutralize the Emperor and end this madness”, hinting that Paul’s enemies have finally found a way to bring him down.

Jason Momoa is also back, but this time as Hett, a ghoul created by Bene Tleilaxu from Duncan Idaho’s genetic material. Unlike the Duncan audiences met in the previous films, Hate is a reimagined version of the warrior, whose role may prove crucial in the fight against Paul. In an unexpected twist, Paul puts Hett in charge of his family’s security. But whether he can trust her is another question. Anya Taylor-Joy’s Aliya Atreides appears to test the Hat’s loyalty in a blood-soaked scene, hinting at the danger Paul lurks within his circle.

The trailer also takes a brief look at Paul and Chaney’s twins, Leto II and Ghanima, played by Jason Momoa’s son Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke. His appearance suggests that the film will move through a different story timeline from Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah, bringing the next generation of the Atreides family into the action as they grow up.

Dune: Part Three promises a darker end to Paul’s story

Starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Florence Pugh, Jason Momoa, and Anya Taylor-Joy for the third installment, Dune: Part Three will go head-to-head with Marvel in theaters worldwide on December 18, 2026. Avengers: Doomsday.
