According to Page Six, David Krumholtz is stepping away from acting for an unspecified period of time, citing his frustration with changes in Hollywood, which he describes as a corporate-driven industry that has lost its appreciation for artists.

The 48-year-old actor, known for his roles in Oppenheimer and The Santa Clause series, revealed his exit in a post on Threads that has since been deleted. The actor, originally from New York City, expressed feelings of being “disappointed, fed up, disappointed” after more than thirty years in the entertainment industry.

Krumholtz said he had long been apprehensive about leaving his career. However, he felt an immediate sense of relief after sending an email to formalize his departure.

Krumholtz said, “I’m not sure what I’m going to do for the money, or how I’m going to do it, but I’ve removed a huge burden that I didn’t really understand until it was over.”

The actor, who plays physicist Isidor Isaac Rabi in Christopher Nolan’s hit 2023 film Oppenheimer, highlighted significant changes in the industry since he began his career as a teenager in the early 1990s. He blamed “the cartelization of Hollywood” for the loss of the unwritten code of mutual respect and equitable remuneration.

He said, “Exploitative art is not art. And artists deserve a fair percentage of pay for work that helps their employers make profits.”

He also expressed disapproval of the expectation that actors must maintain strong social media profiles to remain employable.

Krumholtz later clarified that he was not leaving the acting profession entirely; Rather, he wants time to consider his career aspirations. As he stepped away from the public eye, his focus turned to his personal life and the family he has established with his wife and two children.

David Krumholtz has been married to his wife, Vanessa Britting, since 2010. Vanessa is a former actress best known for her roles in productions such as Without a Trace, The Unit, and Desperate Housewives. Additionally, she appeared with Krumholtz in the series Numb3rs.

David and Vanessa’s romantic journey began in the early 2000s.

Although specific details of their early relationship are not publicly known, they are said to have been in a relationship for several years before their marriage.

Following their engagement in 2008, the couple exchanged their wedding vows on May 22, 2010 at The Plaza Hotel in New York City.

The couple has largely maintained the privacy of their family life, even though both are involved in the entertainment industry. Krumholtz and Britting are the parents of two children: their daughter Pemma Mae, born in 2014, and their son Jonas, who arrived in 2016. A year after the birth of their son, the family relocated from Los Angeles to New Jersey, where they have lived ever since.

In 2011, Krumholtz was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Shortly after his marriage to Britting, he discovered a lump on his neck which resulted in a diagnosis. She had a thyroidectomy followed by radioactive iodine therapy and was declared cancer-free in January 2012. However, the treatment has had lasting effects on her health, including challenges related to weight management and thyroid hormone replacement.
