The game is no longer just trapping players. Now the game will be brought into the real world. Sony Pictures has released the first official trailer Jumanji: Open World, starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan, is the third and final part of the rebooted series. Bringing more humour, thrilling action and a new twist to the film, it promises us one of the best films of the year come this Christmas.
Jumanji: Open World Trailer Breakdown
Unlike the previous films, which featured teenagers entering the game, this time the famous avatars of the game enter the real world. Dr. Smolder Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson), Franklin “Mouse” Finbar (Kevin Hart), Professor Sheldon “Shelley” Oberon (Jack Black), and Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan) find themselves struggling to survive outside the game of Jumanji.
Trouble begins when Spencer (Alex Wolfe) and his friends realize there is a bigger problem. According to Spencer, “We have a problem. They’re video game characters, but they’re stuck in demo mode.” Instead of the powerful characters they are used to seeing, the avatars appear to be messed-up versions of themselves as they try to explore their surroundings. There are several fun scenes in the trailer, such as a group trying to run through the streets with dinosaurs and breaking into an eatery.
However, the situation becomes even more complicated when an attempt to send them back to the world of Jumanji fails. As for Spencer’s mother, Janice (Marin Hinkle) finds herself in Jumanji and becomes the reincarnation of Dr. Bravestone. The preview hints at an amusing confrontation between Spencer and her mother, as they bicker, she is depicted as Ruby Roundhouse and her mother as Bravestone. It’s also funny how Bravestone, played by Dwayne Johnson, suddenly adopts a Spanish accent.
Nod to the original Jumanji
Jumanji: Open World will bring the franchise back to its roots. While the new films revolve around individuals trapped in the game, the new film will again follow a similar path to the classic 1995 Robin Williams film, where elements of Jumanji seep into the real world. The film will also pay tribute to Robin Williams and his legacy.
familiar faces return
The film brings together the cast of the franchise, where Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan return to play the video game characters. Alex Wolfe, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner, and Ser’Darius Blain also reprise their roles as the teenagers who initially discover Jumanji.
The film also stars Danny DeVito, Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, Rhys Darby, and Marin Hinkle in their return appearances, while Dan Hildebrand, Jack Jewkes, and Brittany O’Grady make their debuts. Jake Kasdan returns with directing and screenplay duties along with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg.
Jumanji: Open World is set to hit theaters on December 25, 2026. The film was originally planned for release on 11 December before being shifted to Christmas Day.
