The story starts in 2016. Newlyweds Ian Diaz and Angela Connell Diaz were living the perfect life, living in Anaheim, just minutes from Disneyland. Angela was pregnant with twins, and the couple seemed to be settling into married life.

Who was Lilithistruth?

Angela began receiving threatening emails from an online account called “Lilithistruth”. The messages included violent threats against her, her home, and her unborn twins. Lilithstruth introduces herself as Angela to answer A Craigslist ad described a rape fantasy and asked a stranger to carry it out at the couple’s Anaheim condominium.

Concerned for their safety, US Deputy Marshal Ian and Angela decide to report the threats to the police.

The username “Lilithistuth” is an apparent reference to the Biblical character Lilith, who was Adam’s first wife. According to later interpretations, Lilith refused to submit to Adam, left the Garden of Eden and joined the demons. The Biblical references immediately attracted the attention of investigators.

Therefore, Lillystruth was previously thought to be Michelle Hadley, Ian’s first wife.

Their relationship had deteriorated years ago. When things started going bad, she decided to leave the condo they once shared. As a result of experiencing complex post-traumatic stress disorder, he was found wandering in the Arizona desert. She had also previously sent Ian emails containing Biblical language, telling him that one day he would be held accountable for his actions.

Those details initially appeared to support the prosecution’s case. However, the investigation gradually began to reveal evidence that suggested Mitchell was framed.

Digital evidence ultimately pointed investigators to Ian Diaz. Authorities determined that the threatening emails and Craigslist posts originated from Ian’s locations. He also texted with Angela while he was at the Anaheim condominium.

Prosecutors later concluded that Ian had created the “Lilithistuth” persona to frame his ex-wife.

Where is Michelle Hadley now?

Following his release, Headley has spoken publicly about his survival of the ordeal. She is now a strong survivor, who has life to live. Since its release, Headley has become a vocal advocate for survivors, and she hopes the film will reach every woman in a similar situation to hers.

“I want her to know that she’s not alone, that every single woman who’s been through something like this has come out the other side as a warrior, and she has basically an entire army, we can be a beacon for them, the light in the storm,” she said in the documentary.

One of the most emotional moments in Hadley’s story came the day Ian Diaz was convicted. On the same day she gave birth to her daughter.

“My life has been full of such strange, often symbolic and sometimes beautiful coincidences,” he said in a statement to NBC News at the time. “My daughter represents my rainbow after a very long storm, and my heart has never felt so full.”

Today, Hadley has returned to work and has dedicated her life to raising her daughter. “Raising this beautiful girl is my fairy tale ending,” he said. “I guess it’s a happily ever after. I’m not a princess, but I get to be the hero in my own story.”
