The fourth season of ‘Panchayat’ has been released on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video. This season will feature two new characters. An attempt has been made to give a new look through those characters.
In the year 2020, when we were introduced to the village of Phulera for the first time, no one could have imagined that this small village would make such a deep place in our hearts. The fourth season of ‘Panchayat’ released on 24th June on Amazon Prime Video and once again takes us back to the world of Sachivji, Pradhanji and Manju Devi. But did this season live up to the expectations of the previous three seasons?
Story: Fullera caught in the election storm
Season 4 picks up where Season 3 ended. After the attack on the President, the election atmosphere has heated up in Phulera. There is a tough fight between Manju Devi (Neena Gupta) and Kranti Devi (Sunita Rajwar) for the chair of Pradhani. On one side, Manju Devi is in the fray with the election symbol of bottle cooker, while on the other hand, Kranti Devi is on the election symbol of pressure cooker. This time too the secretary (Jitendra Kumar) is waiting for the results of his CAT exam, and is also worried about the banaraks being caught. His love story with Rinki (Sanvika) also seems to be soaring to new heights this season.
Acting: Old team, same magic
Jitendra Kumar (Secretary)
Jitendra Kumar is once again completely engrossed in his character. The role of secretary has now become second nature to him. In this season, he has also been seen in a little action mode.
Neena Gupta (Manju Devi)
Neena Gupta’s acting is excellent in this season as well. In the election environment, his character reaches new heights.
Raghubir Yadav (President)
Raghubir Yadav’s performance is strong as always. He portrays post-shot pain and choice pressure very effectively.
Supporting cast
Durgesh Kumar (Banaraks), Faisal Malik (Prahlad Cha) and Sunita Rajwar (Kranti Devi) have played their roles with full vigor. Especially Durgesh Kumar’s acting has been very impressive in this season.
Writing and directing: Something is missing
Chandan Kumar’s writing doesn’t seem as sharp this time as it used to be in earlier seasons. In earlier seasons, small dialogues also used to express deep things, but this time it could not happen. The atmosphere is created under the direction of Deepak Kumar Mishra and Akshat Vijayvargiya, but the story lacks the tightness that has been the hallmark of this show.
What did you like?
– The nuances of rural politics are very well portrayed.
– All the actors are seen fully engaged in their characters.
– Election corruption and power play are properly shown.
– This time the relationship between Rinki and the secretary has been brought forward.
What is missing?
– Pacing seemed slow in some episodes and featured more filler material.
– Comedy was less than previous season.
– To make 8 episodes, the story was forced somewhere.
– Characters like Rinki did not get screen time.
See or not?
‘Panchayat Season 4’ is a mediocre season that did not live up to expectations. The story didn’t show the same strength it had in its earlier seasons. That old magic of Phulera seems to have been lost somewhere. If you are an old Panchayat fan you can watch this season, but don’t get your hopes up.
