Tanushree Dutta has questioned the circumstances surrounding Nana Patekar’s death, claiming that no one from Bollywood or media saw his body before the last rites.

During an Instagram Live on Monday night, the actor also questioned whether Nana’s family had a proper look at his body and why he was cremated at midnight.

Nana Patekar died of a heart attack on October 8 at the age of 75. He was cremated at his farmhouse in Donje village near Pune.

During Instagram Live, Tanushree said, “No one in the Bollywood industry and media has seen Nana Patekar’s dead body. And what was so early? In the middle of the night to perform the last rites?”

For the unversed, Nana Patekar’s funeral took place on October 8 at his farmhouse at 11:28 pm.

He questioned why no prayer meeting was held for the legendary actor, saying people from the film industry and media should have had an opportunity to pay their respects.

Tanushree charged, “Such a great legend, such a great personality. There should have been a prayer meeting so that Bollywood people and media personnel could come, see the body and pay their respects. Like Hindu tradition, people attend the meeting, touch the body, bow down and see the deceased with their own eyes.”

Tanushree also questioned whether Nana’s family had seen his face before the cremation. He pointed out that several celebrities have posted tributes to the actor on social media.

“No one in Bollywood saw the body. Many people posted tributes on social media, but did they actually see the body? Did the family see it properly? Who was cremated? His face was covered. Villagers cannot ask such questions, but others do.”

The actor also questioned why no pictures or videos of Nana being taken to the hospital surfaced.

“Even when my accident happened, pictures and videos came out. But not a single video of Nana Patekar came out. He was taken to the hospital, declared dead there and post-mortem conducted.”

Tanushree also questioned the timing of the funeral, citing Hindu traditions surrounding cremation.

“In our religion, cremation is not usually done after sunset. Then why cremation at midnight? What was the rush? Why cremation in the dark of night?”

Tanushree claimed that the body that was cremated was not that of Nana and speculated that the actor might still be alive in Singapore or Malaysia. He alleged that he staged his own death and obtained a fake death certificate to avoid legal action. These claims are not independently established.

He also suggested that a DNA test should be conducted if he had changed his appearance.

On October 8, a large crowd gathered at the GMC Mortuary in Bambolim to pay their last respects to Nana Patekar.

Tanushree had earlier accused Nana Patekar of sexually harassing her while they were shooting for a special song for her film. Horn ‘OK’ please. She had first filed a complaint against the actor with the Cine and TV Artistes Association in 2008, but no action was taken as the case was treated as a criminal matter.

On 13 October 2018, Tanushree Dutta’s lawyer, Nitin Satpute, filed an application at the Oshiwara Police Station in Mumbai, asking that actor Nana Patekar, choreographer Ganesh Acharya, producer Sami Siddiqui and director Rakesh Sarang undergo narco-analysis, brain-mapping and mapping tests.
