Tanushree Dutta has questioned the circumstances surrounding Nana Patekar’s death

Tanushree Dutta had questioned why no prayer meeting was organized for Nana and why members of the film industry and the media did not get a chance to pay their last respects.

During an Instagram Live on October 12, the actor raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the reported death of Nana at the age of 75 on October 8. He was reportedly cremated at his farmhouse in Donje village near Pune.

Tanushree said, “Such a great legend, such a great personality. There should have been a prayer meeting so that Bollywood people and media personnel could come, see the body and pay their respects. Like the Hindu tradition, people attend the meeting, touch the body, bow down and see the deceased with their own eyes.”

He also questioned whether Nana’s family had seen his face before the cremation and pointed to the absence of public pictures or videos of the actor’s body.

“No one in Bollywood saw the body. Many people posted tributes on social media, but did they actually see the body? Did the family see it properly? Who was cremated? His face was covered. Villagers cannot ask such questions, but others do.”

Questioning the absence of footage showing Nana being taken to the hospital, he said, “Even when my accident happened, pictures and videos surfaced. But not a single video surfaced of Nana Patekar. He was taken to the hospital, declared dead and post-mortem conducted.”

Tanushree also objected to the timing of the funeral, saying, “In our religion, funerals are not usually done after sunset. Then why was the cremation done at midnight? What was the rush? Why was the funeral done in the dark of night?”

The actor alleged that the cremated body was not that of Nana and speculated that he might still be alive in Singapore or Malaysia. He further claimed that he had staged his death to avoid legal proceedings and suggested that a DNA test could be conducted if he had changed his appearance. These allegations are not independently established.

Praveen Tarde criticized Bollywood’s absence from Nana Patekar’s funeral

Meanwhile, filmmaker and actor Praveen Tarde criticized Bollywood personalities for their alleged absence from Nana’s funeral. In an interview with ABP Majha, Tarde said that the stature of the veteran actor cannot be measured by the presence of members of the film industry at his last rites.

“Bollywood people not attending the funeral does not diminish Nana’s greatness. Bollywood is not bigger than Nana. Nana was a great person. A few thousand farmers attended Nana’s funeral. They smell of sweat and dirt. That farmer is more important than anyone wearing perfume in Bollywood.”

Tarde also said he was disappointed that Nana’s other friends from the industry did not attend the funeral. He added, “If you ask if I have any complaints, then yes, I do. Bollywood people should have attended the funeral. At least, those who Nana called his friends should have been there. Jackie Shroff and Suresh Wadkar attended.”

Nana Patekar was cremated on October 8 at his farmhouse in Pune, after he died of a heart attack at the age of 75.

Tanushree had earlier accused Nana of sexual harassment during the shooting of a special song of Horn ‘OK’ Please. He first made the allegations in 2008 through a complaint to the Cine and TV Artistes Association. Nana has denied the allegations.

In October 2018, Tanushree’s lawyer, Nitin Satpute, filed an application at Mumbai’s Oshiwara police station seeking narco-analysis, brain-mapping and lie-detector tests for Nana, choreographer Ganesh Acharya, producer Sammy Siddiqui and director Rakesh Sarang.

In June 2019, Mumbai Police cleared Nana Patekar of sexual assault charges to proceed with the case.
