New Delhi:

When Christopher Nolan’s the odyssey Released back in July, many parallels were drawn between the film and the mythological epic The Ramayana.

Bow strings serve as a counterpoint in both stories. in the the odysseyPenelope organizes a string-of-the-bow competition for her companions, but none of them manage to achieve the feat. It is only Odysseus, returning disguised as a beggar, who succeeds. Similarly, in The RamayanaThe competition is held at Sita’s swamvar, where many men are unable to move Lord Shiva’s celestial bow. It is only Rama who not only manages to lift the bow but breaks it in two trying to string it, securing Sita’s hand in marriage.

recently, The Ramayana Director Nitesh Tiwari discussed the similarities.

Nitesh Tiwari told ScreenRant, “The Ramayana is the oldest epic, and I believe that Homer was somehow inspired by the Ramayana, who wrote those bits in the Odyssey. And yes, I saw those parallels, and I’m very happy that our great epic has got a tribute in another epic, which is trying to connect it to the Western world. To bring it to the West as well.”

Ranbir Kapoor specifically spoke about the bow-arrow scene and described it as a sweet coincidence.

The actor said, “To be honest, it’s written in our text 4,000 years ago. So basically, when I saw the Odyssey, I thought, ‘This is from the Ramayana.’ absolutely But yes, sweet coincidence. I love *Odyssey*. I love Christopher Nolan. But yes, doing Ramayana was a very different feeling.”
