Yash is being praised for his role as Ravana in The Ramayana. While his acting has impressed many, actor Sharad Kelkar has also played an important role in bringing this character to life. Sharad lent his voice to Yash in the Hindi version of the film.
Sharad shared this in a recent conversation The Ramayana Director Nitesh Tiwari and the creative team approached the filmmaker after showing interest in working with him.
Sharad explained that Yash can speak Hindi, but his Kannada accent sometimes affects the way he pronounces certain words. Both the actors discussed the scenes, shared ideas and worked together to perfect the dialogues.
talking with Variety India, Sharad Kelkar said, “Yash has given a brilliant performance. He is the best choice for the role and he understands the character well. Dubbing for him was not easy at all. I would call it interesting because Yash speaks Hindi well. But as a person who speaks mostly in Kannada, he has an accent and his rhythm with Hindi words was an issue.”
He revealed that overall The Ramayana The team felt that Yash’s voice needed to be dubbed for the Hindi version. Sharad said, “In Kannada, he has done a wonderful job. He has a wonderful voice. Yash is a sweet person. We used to have long conversations and he would come up with suggestions. He always strived for the best result, asking me if I could improve some scenes. We were all in sync.”
Sharad, who famously dubbed for the Hindi versions of Baahubali films and Salaar, told The Ramayana gig as one of his “most exhausting dubbing experiences”. “It was one of my most tiring dubbing experiences. I can’t imagine how much effort Yash has put in to play this role. I think it is the toughest role of his career and he has done an amazing job,” he said.
Sharad praised director Nitesh Tiwari for creating some special scenes, including the moment when Ravana’s ten heads appear, his meeting with Vidyutjihva and when he seeks blessings from Lord Brahma.
He said that Ravana is portrayed as a very wise and knowledgeable person who is confident in his decisions. So, while recording the Hindi dialogues, he had to make sure that Ravana does not get confused.
Sharad Kelkar further revealed that he was selected to dub for Yash after a friendly phone call. Nitesh Tiwari and his team felt that he was a perfect fit for the role. Sharad also shared that he had earlier met Nitesh at Ravi Dubey’s house and expressed his desire to work with him.
