Directed by Nana Patekar, Prahar was often considered ahead of its time and one of his best performances. Dimple Kapadia was seen with Madhuri Dixit in this film.

After working in Nana’s direction, Dimple said, “He was all heart, all love. Of course he tried to scare you but you had to take it at your level. I was actually shocked when he offered me Prahar, which he directed. I was thinking what did he see in me? How many better actors were there than me.”

“I remember there was a scene in Prahar when my daughter was being molested and she asked me to personally imagine the violent experience, tried to slap me. I just gave up. She was so happy when she got her shot,” Dimple added.

Welcome 2

One word that could describe Nana Patekar was ‘unpredictable’. Dimple couldn’t stop laughing as she recalled her ‘erratic’ nature on the sets of Welcome 2, Nana Patekar’s special feature.

“There was a shoot in the desert during Welcome 2 where my parting line was Maa Ki Aankh. He was sitting on a monitor in a tent and listening to it. It was very funny. Something was going on in his head. He shouted down the place, removed his tie in disgust and said, “Pack up, ye koi dialogue? You can’t force a woman to say all that.” Dimple told Filmfare, “Obviously he bumped into the director or something and was shooting from my shoulder. Just thinking about that day makes me roll with laughter,” Dimple told Filmfare.

In the collection, Dimple plays the role of a Parsi cafe owner and Nana plays the role of a man seeking a job promotion. In a court scene, Nana asks Dimple not to use glycerin.

“He would always work for the betterment of the film. He was cooperative, unlike most actors who only think about their performance, he wanted all his co-stars to perform well. I remember in Kabir Sadanand’s film ‘Tum Milo Ton Sahi’, a court scene was being shot – he said, “Dimple glycerine nahi leene ka, dialogue yad ki ki yaa,”

Dimple did not miss an opportunity to play pranks on the ‘serious’ Nana.

“We always played practical jokes on each other. Once on Kabir’s film, only he said sub time pe aana koi deri nahi. As luck would have it, he was late that day. I straight-facedly said, “Male actors can come late, they can do anything. You guys let the artists get away with bullshitting. If we women did you would have made such a fuss.” Dimple said, “You should have seen his face that day. All day, I pretended I was angry. I had such a good laugh afterwards,” said Dimple.

“But jokes aside, it was a joy to shoot for Prahaar and Krantiveer and their two films that we did together. You get to learn a lot from such actors cum hi milete hai life mein,” sums up Dimple of her journey.
