India won its first athletics gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games on Tuesday, with the women’s 4x400m relay team finishing first in the final.

The Indian team of Kiran, Poovamma, Prachi and Vithya took the top spot with a time of 3:29.69. Bahrain finished second with a time of 3:30.21 and won the silver medal, while China took the bronze medal with a time of 3:31.02.

The win also gave Vithia her second medal of the Aichi-Nagoya Games. She had earlier won bronze in the women’s 400m hurdles before helping India to gold in the relay.

Talking to NDTV, Prachi shared her excitement after the medal-winning performance and said, “It feels great that I am coming back with two medals this time. Last time I came to the Asian Games, I won a silver. So two medals this time, one in the individual event and one gold also feels great. I feel great right now.”

In other news, the in-form Indian women’s hockey team on the verge of ending their 44-year wait for an Asian Games gold medal defeated South Korea 2-0 to enter the final of the continental showpiece in Nagoya on Wednesday.
