It was exactly the kind of indifference that led viewers to watch Netflix’s recently released comedy series, the magnet Popular duo, Jamnadas J.D. Majithia and Aatish Kapadia return with another round of screeching laughs and several chaotic families in between.

Telling the stories of five idiosyncratic families and their intertwined lives, the series is set in Mumbai’s fictional magnet colony, where everyone lives close to each other and is mostly available at each other’s beck and call.

One of the standout performances was by the actor Hailey Shah, who has carved a niche for herself and gained a lot of fame and appreciation in the world of television. Lately, though, she’s been killing it in the OTT space as well. Only after gaining recognition for the role of dentist Preeti Singh in Gulak Season 4, she played a polar opposite character as Twinkle Oberoi the magnet – and accepted the role.

Totally obsessed with herself and oblivious to what’s right in front of her eyes – like her husband, Dr Mickey Oberoi, played by Arjun Bijlani, flirting with every woman behind her back – Twinkle Oberoi is equal parts hilarious and innocent.

She says, “I think humor is very individual. Humor is a genre that takes people a long time to develop and grow. Everyone’s taste in humor is very different and different. “But that’s who she is. Whatever we’ve seen in interviews or any kind of clips, I think that’s who she is in real life. And I think that’s great,” shares Hailey Shah.

Hailey Shah has been facing the arc lights since the tender age of 14, making her television debut on the show. Every color of life… Gulal. “So, I think I’d like to admit that stardom was on my mind for a very short time. But I saw some changes in myself, and after a point, I wasn’t very happy with those changes in my personality.”

As the years went by, so did his perspective on how fame would come and go, but needed to keep his feet firmly on the ground.

“I realized that success and all these things are superficial. It’s all very temporary. Discipline, how you conduct yourself in life, how you talk to people and how kind you are – I think those are the things that take you forward in life,” she says.

On the eternal debate around the ‘TV actor’ tag

The debate between a TV actor and a big screen actor has been endless for years. However, the lines have blurred over the years with the OTT boom.

Hailey Shah says it never bothered her.

She adds, “I don’t think it has bothered me. It’s just been my journey. Now, if we look at the last one year, television actors are getting a lot of opportunities, and I think that’s a great thing.”

“Now, if I talk about myself, when I tried transitioning and auditioning for web shows and movies, it was about five years ago. I was trying to attract more opportunities, meet people and tell them, ‘Hey, I’m out there, and I’d love to test or audition for projects like this.’

His journey resulted in many hits, such as with the show Devanshi (2016-2017), Ishak Me Marjawan 2 (2020-2021) and Sufiana my love (2019), to name a few.
