An unexpected resemblance brought back memories of a dear friend for Anil Kapoor. The actor was reminded of late actor-filmmaker Satish Kaushik after meeting a contestant who looked like him. India’s Top 1% – The Anil Kapoor Show. This was followed by a heartfelt conversation about their friendship, their shared memories and a film they had always wanted to make together.

Contestant Gagan caught Anil’s attention because of his resemblance to Satish. Gagan also shared that people often pointed out the similarity. For Anil, however, the moment went beyond a familiar face, bringing back memories of someone who was an important part of his life.

Speaking about their bond, Anil said, “My bond with him, I can’t describe. Even if the shoot was 70 minutes long, it wouldn’t have been enough to tell his stories. He was a dear friend of mine but apart from that, his talent and sense of humor were amazing.”

Anil also shared a fun detail about their friendship. He used to call Satish as ‘Danny DeVito’, as both were fond of movies the twins. He also envisioned playing twin brothers on screen one day, but the idea never materialized. Anil recalls how well Satish understood him, from his mood to his happiness.

“If any of me could be called a twin brother, it would be only Satish, because he knew everything about me: my anger, my happiness, everything. He knew me well (if I had a twin brother, it would have been Satish. He knew about me, my anger, my happiness and everything).”

The conversation finally took a lighter turn when Anil and Gagan sang Satish’s famous line, “My name is Calender, I am the main character in the kitchen!“From the 1987 film Mr. India. Satish plays the role of Calender, a cook in the film.

Satish Kaushik died on 9 March 2023 at the age of 66.
