Suchitra Krishnamurthy opens up about her relationship with filmmaker Shekhar Kapur. In a candid chat, the actor recalled meeting Shekhar in his teenage years and shared how their family reacted to their age difference.

During an interview with hotterfly, Suchitra took a trip down memory lane and recalled, “The first time I saw him, I was in Class 11. He came to my college as the chief guest. He looked at me and said something, and I said, ‘Yes.’ I was a fangirl. Gautham Rajdhyaksha sent me to meet him when I was 18, when I did a film that was never made. After we met, he kept calling me and taking me out. My sister used to be very angry.”

There is a 30-year age difference between Suchitra and Shekhar. Talking about her family’s reaction to the age difference between the two, Suchitra said,Mom told me to wear such a pair, please wear it. (My mother literally grabbed my feet and begged me, ‘Please don’t do this’). But when things started to go wrong, my mother said, ‘Listen, you don’t need to be disrespectful with anything; You are not an orphan. We’ve always kept fighting, but he’s got that fire, and he’s given me that fire.”

Despite their age difference and her parents’ objections, Suchitra and Shekhar married in 1999 and welcomed their daughter, Kaveri Kapoor. Later, their marriage became strained, and they divorced in 2007. Suchitra and Shekhar co-parent Kaveri, who was six when they divorced. Since then, Suchitra has opened up about her troubled relationship and her journey as co-parents. His daughter Kaveri made her Bollywood debut with a rom-com Bobby and Rishi’s love storyWhich also premiered on Disney+ Hotstar.
