Shraddha Kapoor has talked about working in ‘Itha’. It is an upcoming biopic musical film by Laxman Utekar, inspired by the life of famous Tamasha and Lavani artiste Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar. During the trailer launch of the film in Mumbai, the actress talked about her experience of being associated with this project, preparation for her character, the way the film depicts the actors and their struggles. Shraddha will be seen in the role of ‘Itha Bai’ in this film. The film traces the life of this celebrated artiste against the backdrop of the Tamasha and Lavani traditions of Maharashtra. The cast of the film also includes Randeep Hooda, Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub, Anant Joshi and Siddharth Jadhav. At the event, Shraddha also talked about director Laxman Utekar’s decision to make ‘Itha’ instead of making another similar historical film after the success of ‘Chhaava’.
Shraddha Kapoor told the reason for choosing ‘Itha’
Shraddha said that she is happy to get the opportunity to be a part of ‘Itha’. He also praised Utekar for choosing a different subject after ‘Chhaava’. He said, ‘Naturally I am very happy that I got a chance to be a part of such a film. After ‘Chhaava’, the easiest thing for Laxman Sir would have been to make another warrior film, but he did not do so. When I asked him about this, he said – I want to show a different world. I think his decision is very brilliant.
Whose story is ‘Itha’
‘Itha’ is based on the folk-art tradition of Maharashtra and the life of Vithabai Narayangaonkar. Vithabai was one of the most well-known personalities associated with ‘Tamasha’. Vithabai received the Presidential Award in 1957 and 1990 for her contribution in the field of art. His life and career were mainly associated with itinerant performances and ‘Tamasha’. He continued to perform his art despite many personal and financial difficulties. There is an incident in his life which people remember even today. Once during a performance she started having labor pains. She gave birth to her child backstage and returned shortly after to perform.
Shraddha Kapoor’s family is proud
Shraddha Kapoor says that her family will be proud of her. Shraddha also told that she herself belongs to a family of artists. He also discussed why being a part of a film based on artists meant so much to him. He said, ‘Obviously he would be proud that I am a part of something related to Marathi culture. I feel this very deeply. He would also be proud of the fact that I am a part of this discussion about artists associated with Maharashtra and Marathi culture. My aunt is an artist, my father is an artist and I am also an artist. He further said that ‘Itha’ shows the struggles that actors often face behind the stage.
Shraddha Kapoor on preparations for Lavani
Shraddha also talked about her character in ‘Itha’ and how she prepared to learn Lavani for the film. The actress told that when the shooting had to be stopped midway, the entire team gave her full support. He spent a lot of time understanding and practicing this dance style. He said, ‘I got a lot of support. The shooting was stopped, but thanks to everyone’s love and support we were able to return. I had to understand Lavani properly and had to practice a lot. During the shooting of ‘Itha’, Shraddha got injured in her toe while filming a scene of Lavani, due to which the shooting had to be stopped for some time. Later, after recovering, he started shooting again.
Great star cast of Ithaa
‘Itha’ stars Randeep Hooda, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Siddharth Jadhav in lead roles. In the trailer, Shraddha is seen in the character of ‘Itha Bai’, who does Lavani and goes through different stages of her life. Randeep Hooda is playing the role of a businessman in the film, while Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Siddharth Jadhav, Anant Joshi, Akshara Singh and Ulka Gupta are also part of the cast of this film. This film comes after Utekar’s previous film ‘Chhaava’, which was based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.
After ‘Stree 2’, Shraddha Kapoor will return to the big screen with ‘Itha’
Through ‘Itha’, Shraddha Kapoor will return to the big screen after ‘Stree 2’ in 2024. She is playing the role of a real artist in this film and has done a lot of preparation for the ‘Laavani’ scenes. ‘Itha’ will be released in theaters on December 4, 2026.
