Dwayne Johnson, better known as The Rock, is facing criticism from Taylor Swift fans after he liked a video criticizing the singer on his verified Instagram account. The post took a dig at her singing, dancing and songwriting and compared her to music icons Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse and Aretha Franklin. Given his history of openly praising Swift and showing support for her music, the interaction has taken her fans by surprise.
The post that got Swifties talking
The video was openly critical of Taylor Swift’s singing, dancing, and songwriting, with the caption reading: “She’s not a good singer. She’s not a good dancer. She’s not a good songwriter. So what is she? If not a carefully crafted fake?” The post has left fans questioning why Dwayne Johnson’s account appears to be linked to content that attacks the singer so harshly.
It is unclear whether this was done intentionally. Some fans believe it may have been an accidental tap, while others find it difficult to make sense of the conversation, given their past support for the singer.
A user on X wrote, “I didn’t expect this from Dwayne Johnson… I’m very disappointed in him, especially the way he seemed to support her and get involved in her career… maybe it was an accident, idk :(.” Another user wrote, “Keep in mind he was nothing but nice to her. And he was in her music video. Like what he’s done to y’all. First it was Rihanna and now her? They really hate having a successful beautiful and nice woman on top.”
Everyone is not able to believe that he has liked the video intentionally. Some have suggested it may have happened accidentally while scrolling, while others have wondered whether a member of their social media team was responsible. The actor and his representatives have not commented publicly on the matter, and reportedly appeared to be the same at the time of reporting.
Why does Johnson’s past endorsement matter?
For fans, it’s obviously hard to reconcile Dwayne and Taylor’s history. In 2015, Dwayne performed a lip-sync rendition of Taylor’s hit Shake It Off on Lip Sync Battle. He later voiced the male character in their self-directed music video for The Man.
Dwayne also featured Bad Blood (Taylor’s version) in his animated film DC League of Super-Pets. In 2024, he publicly praised Taylor and called her the “biggest star” in the world. He had also shared how he personally reached out to a close friend to help her get tickets for her Eraaz Tour.
Upcoming Projects of Dwayne Johnson
Dwayne has many projects. He will return to the big screen with Jumanji: Open World, the third film in the rebooted franchise, which is set to release in theaters on December 25, 2026.
He will also star in Free Bird, directed by Greg Quader of Sing Sing fame. Dwayne plays a Las Vegas motorcycle stuntman who is hiding a diagnosis of dementia. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are backing the drama through their production banner, Artists Equity.
Another project in the works is Lizard Music, which will see Dwayne reunite with Benny Safdie. He reportedly had to undergo extensive prosthetic work to play the 70-year-old character Chicken Man in the fantasy film. The film is expected to release in 2027.
Taylor Swift’s latest musical chapter
