Avengers Endgame: Encore is returning to theaters with new footage, but some of those scenes have already surfaced online. Days before the re-release on September 25, clips reportedly recorded during early screenings began circulating on social media, giving fans a glimpse of material that appears to connect the 2019 film to Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel Studios is working to remove the leaked footage from various platforms. Following the leak, the Russo Brothers asked fans not to reveal new surprises to those planning to see the film in theaters.
Russo Brothers ask fans not to spoil new footage
With the re-release approaching, the Russo Brothers also shared a message asking viewers to keep the new scenes a secret. He wrote, “One last request. There are some new surprises in Avengers Endgame: Encore. Please don’t spoil them for everyone else. Give them the same opportunity to discover those surprises that you had.”
The directors also remember watching Endgame with audiences when it first debuted in 2019. For him, watching thousands of people react to the film in real time is one of the most emotional moments of his career.
He wrote, “The most emotional night of our careers was walking into theaters for the opening night of Avengers Endgame. We stood in the back and watched the reactions of thousands of strangers – gasps, joy, tears. We got chills. And we may have even shed a tear or two ourselves.”
The filmmakers also want fans who have only seen the film at home to experience it on the big screen. He added, “There’s a generation that has only seen this movie in their living rooms. And we want to hear what it’ll be like when they finally see it in the theater.”
What do the leaked scenes show? [Spoilers]
According to reports, about four minutes of new footage has been added to Avengers Endgame: Encore. The scenes reportedly involve Doctor Doom, Bruce Banner, Loki, Steve Rogers, Peggy Carter, and the TVA, with several moments that appear to set up the events of Avengers: Doomsday.
One reported scene focuses on Bruce Banner living alone in an underground facility while working on a gamma-ray suppressor to control the Hulk. His isolation is interrupted when an unknown visitor arrives. That person is believed to be Doctor Doom, who tells Banner, “I’ve come to get you,” before Banner transforms into the Hulk.
The scene reportedly features green lightsaber and Latverian symbols, leading to speculation about Doom’s plans for Banner and whether the Hulk might appear in a different form in Doomsday. However, the footage doesn’t confirm those theories.
Another new sequence reportedly gives a different meaning to the hammer sound heard during the original Endgame credits. The sound, which reminded audiences of Tony Stark creating his first Iron Man suit, is reportedly accompanied by footage of Doctor Doom creating his mask. Given that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU as Victor von Doom, this scene has already raised questions about whether there might be a deeper connection between Doom and Stark. However, this scene does not establish that Doctor Doom is a Tony Stark version.
Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter’s ending reportedly also gets an unexpected extension. After their long-awaited dance, the couple hears a knock at the door. Peggy answers it and finds Loki wearing his TVA uniform. He reportedly tells them he can help them. This moment appears to tie Steve and Peggy’s alternate timeline into the broader multiverse storyline and may also explain how Loki becomes involved in the events leading up to Doomsday.
The biggest reveal takes place in TVA, where Mobius and Ouroboros discover that multiple universes are headed for a collision. The sequence reportedly depicts over 3,000 universes being destroyed as the multiverse begins to collapse. It also reportedly includes glimpses of realities that have already been lost, including the universe connected to Eric Bana’s Hulk and the 2015 Fantastic Four film.
The mention of 3,000 universes has caught the attention of fans as it may be a reference to Tony Stark’s “I love you 3,000” line from Endgame.
Avengers Road: Doomsday
The new content in Avengers Endgame: Encore appears to serve as a link between the Infinity Saga and Marvel’s current multiverse storyline. The re-release will also include an exclusive look at Avengers: Doomsday, arriving on December 18.
Robert Downey Jr. is set to return to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday, but this time his character will be Victor Von Doom instead of Tony Stark. His casting has been one of the biggest talking points around the upcoming Avengers film.
Avengers: Endgame: Encore will release in theaters on September 25 in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. It will also be displayed in premium formats including IMAX, 4DX, MX4D, SCREENX and Dolby Vision.
