Marvel Studios leaves its mark San Diego Comic-Con 2026, ensuring that fans will remember this presentation for years to come. While fans around the world watched the Avengers: Doomsday trailer online, the 6,500 people attending Hall H were in for a big surprise. The exclusive footage was nothing like the public trailer; Not only was it longer, but it also had a lot of scenes that were completely new, character introductions, and insight into how dangerous Robert Downey Jr.’s character Victor Von Doom really is to everyone.
The presentation was led by Kevin Feige along with directors Joe and Anthony Russo, while Robert Downey Jr. took the stage with a huge cast. Before the special footage presentation, Downey Jr. encouraged the audience to wear their Doctor Doom masks, causing Hall H to immediately look like Doctor Doom’s army.
Difference between online trailer and SDCC 2026
The first trailer for the film was made public on July 20, revealing the key players, including the first look at Robert Downey Jr. as Victor Von Doom, hinting at the return of our heroes and a big battle about to take place. The teaser was both promising and scary as the familiar characters prepare to fight someone new.
According to Variety, ComicBook & Games Radar, Hall H at the SDCC 2026 edition gave us something completely different. Instead of following the heroes, it focused on Doom’s background, his suffering, and the dangerous power he now possesses. The tone of that version was much darker, featuring ruined cities and impossible battles as well as an unbeatable villain. It also revealed a major threat that was not mentioned in the public trailer.
Doom’s tragic past takes center stage
The special preview began with Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) telling Doom’s story without any fanfare. Meanwhile, Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor Von Doom was alone and Sue called him “the smartest guy in the room”, who later became a defeated man after losing everything.
The trailer then shows Doom’s castle where a large image of a woman and a child reveals that he has lost his family. The solemn scene suddenly turned tragic when the video shifted to devastated New York. Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) was overcome with emotion and asked Doom, “Did you do it, Victor?”
The trailer started to get more dynamic as Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and his daughter Love appeared in it. What happened at that moment was one of the most notable moments of the trailer. Doom took Mjolnir without any problem and threw it away as if it was something unimportant.
The surprise came when Doom used green magic to raise an army of Sentinels. As giant robots emerged from beneath the ground, he announced, “Hell answers to me.” This moment raised the tension level for the entire universe and showed
X-Men finally step into MCU battle
Probably, the most unexpected development was Marvel’s mutants. The trailer didn’t reveal any information about the mutants, but Hall H footage confirmed that Fox’s X-Men will appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The trailer is said to feature James Marsden (Cyclops), Ian McKellen (Magneto) and Channing Tatum (Gambit) threatening several different worlds from Doom’s solaris army. Eagle-eyed viewers even spotted Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers seen with his baby, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki wearing the TVA suit, Black Panther and Shang-Chi.
Marvel brings together the biggest Avengers cast
The Marvel presentation marked one of the largest Comic-Con events ever. Kevin Feige introduces directors Anthony and Joe Russo and a host of celebrities including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Simu Liu, James Marsden, David Harbour, Letitia Wright, Lewis Pullman, Kelsey Grammer, Danny Ramirez, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, Rebecca Romijn, and Tenoch Huerta Mejía. Hayley Atwell was also on stage, proving that she would be returning to the role of Peggy Carter.
Marvel announced that Avengers: Doomsday features heroes from three different universes facing an enemy they have never met before. In addition to the above-mentioned actors, the film will star Chris Hemsworth, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Wyatt Russell, Channing Tatum, Ian McKellen, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Joseph Quinn, Sebastian Stan, Kathryn Newton, Alan Cumming, and Mabel Cadena.
Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
