In today’s fast-paced world, where life is reduced to ‘scrolling’ and ‘trolling’, Netflix’s new web series ‘Musafir Cafe’ comes as a breath of fresh air. Directed by Ruchir Arun and divided into 8 episodes, the series is based on the popular Hindi novel by Divya Prakash Dubey. This story reminds us how important it is sometimes in life to stop, stop and live in the moment.
Story: Love, dreams and unfulfilled feelings
The story begins with Chandra (Vikrant Massey) and Sudha (Vedika Pinto) meeting for an arranged marriage in Bhopal. Despite rejecting each other at first meeting, fate brings them face to face again and again. The two fall deeply and truly in love, but Sudha refuses to marry to pursue her law firm dreams.
Years later, Chandra quits his job to pursue his dream of opening a cafe in the mountains and Preeti (Mahima Makwana) enters his life. Preeti is a self-reliant, practical and sensible woman who forms a beautiful relationship with Chandra. But, Sudha’s memories still linger in some corner of Chandra’s heart. Rather than being right or wrong, this story beautifully presents the interweaving of love, lust and wrong timing.
Musafir Cafe: Performance
It is difficult to say one thing about what is the soul of ‘Musafir Cafe’. Be it the performances, the story or the setting, everything comes together to create a flavor that is absolutely unique. In the role of Chandra, Vikrant Massey has played the role of such a man, whom every woman wants. He is a friendly, patient and emotionally supportive person; They are an example of a ‘safe space’. Sometimes it becomes difficult to differentiate between Vikrant and Chandra as the character looks so natural on him. He makes his acting very easy and natural. You stop wondering if they are acting or not, because they get completely into character.
Vedika Pinto is equally effective as Sudha. She easily slips into the role of an ambitious young woman who is torn between love and her dream career. Her acting seems natural and her chemistry with Vikrant is one of the biggest highlights of the film. Every moment between the two feels genuine and real.
Mahima Makwana’s portrayal of Preeti is perhaps the pleasant surprise of the film. She is confident, emotionally strong and knows what she wants from life. She successfully runs a business, pursues her dream of becoming a writer, and makes room for love without losing herself in a relationship (or her business).
One scene in particular is very memorable, in which she believes that Chandra and Sudha’s relationship was too deep and decides not to interfere in that part of her life. Instead of facing her past, she finds solace in the life and relationships she has built. At that moment love won your heart.
Apart from the artists, the cafe and the mountains also deserve equal credit. They are almost like silent characters, creating atmosphere without saying anything. Be it the well-known streets of Bhopal or a cozy cafe nestled amidst the mountains, each location adds warmth and a distinct identity to the story. The acting, setting, and writing combine to create something as relaxing an experience as a good cup of coffee.
Musafir Cafe: Music and Conversation
‘Musafir Cafe’ relies more on writing and screenplay than dialogues. It’s a series of conversations – conversations that stick with you and make you think.
However, music has an important role in ‘Musafir Cafe’. It is very comfortable and used at the right moments. Songs like ‘Tera Hua Sahiba’, ‘Koofi Hai Naa’, ‘Darmiyaan’, ‘Rozana’, ‘Tuta Rahunga’ and ‘Rozana Reprise’ play an important role in driving the story forward and enhancing the special moments.
Musafir Cafe: Direction
Directed by Ruchir Arun, this 8 episode series almost looks like a perfectly baked cake. The simple story is not made unnecessarily complicated and that is the reason for the success of the film. They allow dialogues and silences to express emotion rather than relying on dramatic turns.
The pace may seem slow at times, but it reflects an aspect of life and enhances it rather than distracting from it. Arun deserves praise for his sympathetic treatment of the three main characters. No one is portrayed as a hero or villain. This series is not about who gets the most screen time. Instead, they present them as flawed yet relatable people.
Musafir Cafe: What is good and what is not
If life is asking you to stop and watch a show that soothes your soul, ‘Musafir Cafe’ is exactly that show. There is no suspense or promise of an explosive story in the next episode. Nevertheless, you will be interested in the story of the three main characters as you will find your glimpse somewhere in these three. It has mountains; Good coffee and good tea, books and love are also mentioned – so what’s not to like!
One of the few drawbacks of ‘Musafir Cafe’ may be that the story treads a very safe path. Even when there are emotional conflicts in the story, they rarely translate into moments that stick with you long after the show ends. Confusions are resolved with the same delicacy that characterizes this film; It suits his mood, but it also reduces his effectiveness.
Musafir Cafe: Final Opinion
Visiting ‘Musafir Cafe’ feels like a slow Saturday afternoon or a quiet Sunday morning – the kind of relaxing moments we crave after a hectic week. If you want to watch a cozy, heartwarming story, definitely add this to your watchlist. Anyway, ‘Musafir Cafe’ is worth your time. Not only because it has an amazing cast and a heartwarming story, but also because it reminds you to take breaks slowly, wisely, and not worry about missing out on anything in life.
