However, as the tournament ended, Bachchan signed off with a sweet message thanking his team and the two countries that hosted the tournament.
Edinburgh Castle Rockers won the inaugural title, defeating Belfast Wolves by seven wickets in the final in Malahide, Ireland. Andreas Goss played a key role in the chase, scoring an unbeaten 90 off 61 balls as Edinburgh chased down their target of 151.
Earlier in an interview, Abhishek Bachchan explained why he never bought an IPL team.
Speaking to Forbes, Abhishek said: “It’s very exciting. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like the IPL. I think it’s the ultimate in sports entertainment. I’d love to be involved, but at the time – first of all, when it started, it was very expensive. Good money, but it was out of my budget.”
The IPL started in 2008, when Abhishek Bachchan was making inroads in the industry with films like Dhoom, Dhoom 2, LOC: Kargil, and Guru.
He also said that he wondered what value he could bring to the game: “Most importantly, I didn’t know what I could contribute. In terms of infrastructure, the BCCI does a fantastic job—so what can I bring to the table? I’m not someone who is happy to sit in the stands and wave hands. ‘Oh, a star has arrived’—I’m not that person.”
