Shanti Narayanasamy, elder daughter of popular Tamil actor Shivaji Ganesan, passed away in Chennai on Sunday. She was 71 years old. According to PTI, Shanti died due to health complications after being ill for the past few days.
Shanti was the first child of Shivaji Ganesan and his wife Kamala Ganesan. She is survived by her siblings, producer Ramkumar, actor Prabhu, and Thanmozhi.
His father named his famous cinema theater after Anna Salai in Chennai. The Shanti Theater became a well-known landmark and was closely associated with the legacy of Sivaji Ganesan. The theater was later demolished and the property redeveloped.

Shanti also worked as a film producer. She was associated with Sivaji Productions and notably produced her father’s 1974 film. Thangapathakam. She was also known for producing films including Nityain Nijhal (1985) And Vetri Visa (1989).
Following the news of his death, members of the Tamil film industry and several political leaders expressed their condolences to Ganesan’s family. His body was kept at his residence in Valsaravakkam, where family members, friends and well-wishers gathered to pay their last respects.
Actor Prabhu reached the residence and got emotional seeing his sister’s dead body. Many film personalities including Nadigar Sangam president Nassar, noted actor Sivakumar and director P Vasu also visited the residence and paid their respects.
Shanti Narayanasamy’s last rites were performed on Sunday.
