Mohanlal-starrer Tadmavin Kombathu All set to return to theaters on October 8. The film, originally released in 1994, has been digitally restored in 4K for its theatrical re-release. Ahead of its release, Mohanlal revisited the film and shared it with filmmaker Priyadarshan as his favourite.
In the video shared by the film’s distributors, Mohanlal said that C Tadmavin Kombathu The films she has done with Priyadarshan have been particularly special for her. He said, “Of all the films I have done with Priyan, Themavin Kombathu is my favorite.”
The actor further acknowledged the audience who have been appreciating the film’s characters and recalling its memorable moments over the years. “For those who love Manikayan and Karthumbi, ‘Thenmavin Kombathu’ is re-released after a long gap of 32 years. With its stunning visuals, memorable songs and many hilarious moments, the film continues to entertain the audience. The film is re-releasing on October 8,” he added.
According to an online portal reporter, the restoration team went back to the original 35mm negative while working on a new version of the film. The negatives were first digitized through a 4K scan and then upscaled to Super 4K as part of the restoration process. Despite the technical improvements, the team retained the visual character of the original film.
Tadmavin Kombathu Mohanlal, Shobana and Nedumudi are in lead roles along with Venu, Srinivasan, Kuthiravatam Pappu, Sukumari and Kaviyur Ponnamma.
The film revolves around a love triangle involving Mohanlal Manikyan, her employer and elder brother-Shrikrishnan, played by Nedumudi Venu and a village artist named Karthumbi portrayed by Shobana.
The film was a huge commercial success and won five Kerala State Film Awards as well as two National Film Awards for Best Cinematography and Best Production Design.
