Kajol, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Ibrahim Ali Khan starrer ‘Sarzameen’ has released on OTT platform Jio Cinema on 25th July. The film touches on the spirit of patriotism, but the real story depicts the pain of a soldier who has to choose between his land and his son. The question is – should this movie be on your weekend playlist?
What is the story? (without spoilers)
Colonel Vijay Menon (Prithviraj Sukumaran) posted in Kashmir hates his son Harman (Ibrahim Ali Khan). She feels that her son is a coward and therefore refuses to adopt him. Herman, on the other hand, longs for his father’s love, but growing up amidst neglect and misunderstanding, he chooses a path that goes against not only his father but his land. What happens next is the basic story of this film.
How was the acting?
Prithviraj has played his character with sincerity. His facial expressions convey anger and pain at the same time, especially when he stands in front of his son. Kajol looked fine in her limited screen time, but there was no novelty in her character. Ibrahim Ali Khan has moved away from his chocolate image and tried to do something different, which is commendable. However, he still needs to work on his dialogue delivery a bit.
Highlights of the film
The beautiful valleys of Kashmir and the camera work make the film visually strong. Along with patriotism, family sentiments are also well woven. Some dialogues leave an impression, like – “Nothing is more important to me than protecting the land, even if it is my son.”
Shortcomings of the story
The script of the film does not look new. Many scenes are reminiscent of old movies like ‘Mission Kashmir’ and ‘Fiza’. Lacking logic, there are some scenes that seem far from reality. There is a lack of family bonding between Kajol, Prithviraj and Ibrahim. Some action scenes and VFX look fake, like the dam explosion scene.
See or not?
If you want to see Ibrahim in a different character, then you can try once. But if you are expecting to see something new and powerful in the name of patriotism or emotional thriller, this film may disappoint you.
