Malayalam cinema superstar Mammootty is known for his brilliant acting as well as his personality. This year the actor was honored with the National Award and Padma Bhushan. Many old stories related to him are often discussed. Now actor and writer VK Sriraman has shared such an experience related to Mammootty, about four decades old, which people are surprised and smiling after reading. In this incident, a 10 year old child was hit by Mammootty’s car. However, what happened next was no less than a film story. Recalling this incident on social media, Sriraman said that at that time he was present in the car with Mammootty and both were going from Ooty to Coimbatore for the shooting of the film.
Mammootty’s Contessa car met with an accident
According to VK Sriraman, this incident happened at the time when the shooting of director Pavithran’s film ‘Uttaram’ was going on in Ooty. Mammootty and Sriraman were traveling in the actor’s famous Contessa car number 369 during their trip. Mammootty himself was driving the car. Both were going towards Coimbatore, coming down the hilly road from Ooty. Meanwhile, suddenly a 10 year old child crossed the road in front of a convent school and ran to board the bus. Then Mammootty’s car collided with him. Sriraman told that Mammootty suddenly applied brakes, due to which he collided with the windshield of the car as he was sitting in the front seat. Immediately after the accident, Mammootty came out of the car and Sriraman also came down behind him. At that time, he thought that the local people might get angry and vandalize the car and he might even get beaten up, but the sight he saw after reaching the spot was completely different from his expectation.
Both were surprised to see the child after the accident
Sriraman told that due to the collision of the car, the child had fallen towards the roadside drain. Some people were picking him up and bringing him towards them. However, the most surprising thing was that the child was absolutely fine and was smiling. After this, the information given by the security chief of the school about the accident brought relief to everyone. According to VK Sriraman, the school’s security chief said that the child was hit by the car on his right thigh. Coincidentally, two cricket balls were kept in the same pocket of the child’s pants. Because of these balls the impact of collision was reduced. Also, the child fell on the vines and bushes present on the roadside, due to which he did not get seriously injured. The Security Chief described this entire incident as a stunt scene from a movie. Extending his hand towards Mammootty, he also called him the real hero. Mammootty also shook hands with him smilingly.
Mammootty asked Sriraman – were you scared?
After this incident, when both of them sat in the car again, Mammootty asked Sriraman if he was scared. On this, Sriraman jokingly told that he was afraid that the local people might leave Mammootty and mistake him for the driver. He thought that people would question him as to why he was driving so fast even though there were children present near the school. On this, Mammootty also showed his presence of mind and said that Sriraman looked exactly like a driver in his clothes. Sriraman wrote that after this, till he reached Coimbatore, he kept looking back repeatedly to see if the child injured in the accident and the people accompanying him were following him.
Old story discussed on social media
This post of VK Sriraman is now gaining discussion on social media. People are liking the ease and humor with which he has recalled the nearly 40 year old incident. This story of his old friendship with Mammootty and the experience of that day narrates the moment of relief that came after an unexpected accident.
